What Are Lifetime Roof Shingles?

Posted on: October 20, 2015

Roof shingles are one of the most common roofing materials used on residential homes throughout the United States. This is in part due to their comparatively low cost, easy to install nature and overall durability. Typically, the lifespan of a shingle roof is around 20 years, although some general repair work can be expected. However, homeowners can now take advantage of our new lifetime shingle, which comes with a limited 50-year warranty.

What are lifetime roof shingles?

All of our lifetime roof shingles, which are manufactured by CertainTeed, come with a 50-year warranty in which your shingles will be covered 100 percent throughout the first ten years of their lifespan. The warranty is then prorated for the following 40 years. Why do we think that our shingles will last so much longer than the typical shingle roof? Well, first of all, we build our shingle roofs to last throughout the lifetime of homeownership. We do this by building several layers to provide extra durability, ensuring that we use only high quality CertainTeed shingles that are impact resistant and fire resistant, and installing your shingle roof properly without cutting corners in an attempt to cut costs, which will help the roof become more resistant to wind and storm damage.

What are CertainTeed shingles?

CertainTeed produces some of the highest quality roofing shingles in the country. There are a wide variety of CertainTeed shingles to choose from, allowing you to choose the color, texture and style of your roof shingles. This helps to provide you with almost unlimited aesthetic flexibility to ensure that by installing CertainTeed roof shingles, you’ll be boosting your property’s curb appeal. And this is without even considering the durability and resistance CertainTeed’s shingles are known for. The following are the three basic type of shingles that CertainTeed produces, although there are numerous varieties of each available:

  • Strip Shingles - Designed to look like a slate, strip shingles are single-layered roofing shingles that have a very flat appearance. They are the most basic form of shingle roofing that you can have installed.
  • Dimensional shingles - Dimensional shingles are the most common type of shingle roofing. Typically, dimensional shingles are dual-layered – although CertainTeed’s dimensional shingles are manufactured using tri-laminate technology – and have a thicker look about them.
  • Premium shingles – Premium shingles are laminated shingles that are produced to look like natural shake or slate roofing shingles.
